Gulf Oil Spill Provides Jobs

The recent Gull oil spill is a disaster beyond comprehension. Marine animals and coral reefs have been affected by this environmental catastrophe as well as people who have lost their jobs due to the spill. However, if you live in or near an area that has been affected by the oil spill, there is a bit of light: jobs. Numerous positions are now open for those who want good pay, benefits, and steady work, as well as the experience of helping the environment.

By simply typing “oil spill jobs” into a search engine, thousands of hits will be generated offering jobs to help clean up the beaches, provide resources, or install boom to prevent the oil from reaching the shorelines. Most employers offer on-the-job training, benefits and decent pay.

Given the nature of the spill, there are plenty of positions to be filled and many last over 150 days, pay good money, and require little to no previous experience. The position of Oil Spill Clean Up Worker, for example, requires no tests, no prior experience, provides 30 hours or more a week of work, pays $10.00-$18.00 an hour, and simply requires that you have simple cleaning knowledge.

For those with a little more technical knowledge, or who like to travel, there are also positions open that require traveling up and down the Gulf Coast and using various types of machinery such as an Oil Spill Worker. Though this jobs requires about 84 hours of work per week, the pay more than makes up for the work schedule.

There is also a need for supervisors in just about every area of work to ensure that every job is done right and efficiently. Those with past supervisory experience are the only ones who will be considered for the positions, and seeing as there will be a lot of people out there who lack prior experience, those able to supervise will be greatly needed.

To read more about these and other jobs, simplyhired.com, Louisiana Works, Career Builder, or the plethora of other career sites offer plenty of information; even a simple Google search will generate numerous results. So take advantage and start hunting.
